Happy/Announcements/Miscellaneous/Sad Bucks (H.A.M.S.):

Chris Ecker started us off with a happy buck to have survived his backpacking trip. He climbed Mt. Langly.
Dick Barley gave $10 for the Manhattan Beach girls who won the state tournament for Soft Ball. Fraser Draper happy to spend a dollar or two to have a 49th anniversary in Carmel and to spend a few days with their grandchildren. Shirley Hingst, 3 happy bucks, one for Pastor Bruce who went with them to the hospital for Don's procedure. One because Don came thru ok as we could all see, and the last because her very favorite person Dick Barley, took them home from Bob Upton's while Bob worked on their car. It is a side of Barley that we don't often see. Claire Slaughter said it wasn't supposed to be a love Dick Barley day But as she got off the freeway today she looked over and saw the Barley Path and it looked lovely. Thanks "Richard" for all your hard work. (Retired teachers can get away with calling him Richard or Dickie). Joyce Ruygrok wore her t-shirt today. She joined the Century Club for all of us singing happy birthday to her last week on the phone. Joy Gifford has a thank you buck for Fraser Draper, the computer expert and an advertising buck, anyone want to buy a nice house? Joyce Davison a curious buck because when you are going south on the Penobscot river, you are actually going up river. Joy Gibson told a story about Pastor Bruce when he was younger. Chuck Johnson gave a peace and love buck because Dick Barley just kissed him on the cheek. Tom Petersmeyer happy his friend Olaf is here and he just landed a part time high tech job. His son is getting married on the 23rd. Bill Barber very happy that he got a call from a restaurant in Denver, his daughter was proposed to and she said yes! The new husband to-be got on the phone and apologized to Bill because he forgot to ask permission first. Bill said that for better or worse, she was his. Rosemary Hook happy that her friend Ann was here today. Jack Labrie happy to get a hot shower on his return from Ghana. Cold showers in a humid country don't quite do it. Joy Gibson paid another story buck for Dick Barley and his kiss.

Program/Speaker:

Fraser Draper
Fraser is our resident world traveler, and brought pictures to talk about "China Today". Fraser and his wife Dee went to China 14 years ago and again this year.
Fraser's talk today was about the great many changes that have taken place in China. High rises, Cars, the smog and what they plan to do for it during the Olympics. (Basically shut down all manufacturing and traffic within 100 miles). Great pictures of the architecture in the large cities and how Beijing had grown from almost flat with all the Hutongs (low squat buildings) to state owned high rise apartments.
Great job Fraser, lets do it again!

Chuck Johnson , today's newsletter editor and Marilyn Cable, our photographer.
